Trust on the Menu: Shaping the Future of Nutrition Advice
2026-11-03
How can we make nutrition advice more trustworthy and help people make food choices that are both healthier and better for the planet? This is the question at the heart of Work Package 8, Building Capabilities and Trust in Nutrition Guidelines. Running from November 2026 to October 2027, this work package will focus on turning project findings into practical outcomes that can benefit people across Europe. By strengthening stakeholders’ knowledge and skills, encouraging home cooking, and promoting the use of national dietary guidelines, WP8 aims to support healthier and more sustainable eating habits beyond the project’s immediate reach.
A key activity will be the development of guidelines on integrity principles for influencing citizens. Project partners will review existing knowledge, ethical guidelines, research reports, and guiding principles, while engaging key stakeholders through interviews. These insights will inform a shared framework defining integrity principles and clarifying the responsibilities and boundaries of influencers and companies when providing food and nutrition advice and guiding consumers’ decisions.
In parallel, WP8 will develop policy recommendations to promote healthy and sustainable diets aligned with national dietary guidelines. Drawing on the findings and contributions of Work Packages 2–7, partners will prepare a policy brief to support evidence-informed decision-making and encourage healthier food environments.
Looking ahead to 2027, key next steps will include implementing a capacity-building training programme on integrity principles in cooking advice provision and developing consumer empowerment guidelines. These guidelines will help consumers make informed, healthy, and sustainable food choices, while the training will equip relevant stakeholders with the knowledge and skills needed to provide trustworthy, responsible cooking advice.
Through these activities, WP8 will contribute to more trustworthy nutrition communication, stronger stakeholder capabilities, and the wider uptake of healthy and sustainable dietary practices across Europe.
