MyRecipeWatch privacy Policy
Last updated: May 9, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how MyRecipeWatch, also referred to in the application as Recipe Watch, handles user data. MyRecipeWatch is developed by the Institute of Communication and Computer Systems (ICCS) as part of the DietWise project.
This policy covers the MyRecipeWatch mobile application.
Who We Are
MyRecipeWatch is operated by the Institute of Communication and Computer Systems (ICCS), https://www.iccs.gr/.
Privacy contact: info@dietwise.eu
What The Application Does
MyRecipeWatch helps users assess online recipe and food-related content against nutrition and sustainability criteria. When you provide the application with the web address of a page containing a recipe, the application sends that URL and the selected language to our servers. Our servers retrieve and process the page content from our own facilities, not from your device, and return extracted recipe information, assessment results, and suggested ingredient or recipe changes.
You should only submit URLs that you are permitted to share with the service. Avoid submitting private pages, pages behind a login, or URLs that contain personal tokens or other sensitive information.
Data We Process
The application may process:
- Recipe assessment data, including the URL you choose to assess, the selected language, the content available at that URL, extracted recipe names, ingredients, instructions, page text, assessment scores, and suggested changes.
- Account and authentication data, including email address and profile information received from the DietWise identity provider or authentication service, authentication status, access tokens, refresh tokens, and authentication callback data needed to sign you in and keep your session active.
- Personalization data that you choose to save in the application: biological gender, year of birth, and country.
- User decision data, including whether you accept, reject, or undo suggested ingredient or recipe changes, and the relevant suggestion identifiers.
- Local settings, such as the language selected in the application.
- Basic technical request data needed to operate, secure, debug, and maintain the service, such as timestamps, IP address, server logs, app or browser version, device and operating system information, and error information.
We do not intentionally collect payment information, passwords, authentication cookies from recipe websites, personal communications, contacts, precise device location, camera data, microphone data, or advertising identifiers.
The current MyRecipeWatch frontend does not collect health conditions, dietary restrictions, allergies, or nutrition constraints beyond the personalization fields listed above.
How We Use Data
We use data to:
- Provide the recipe assessment requested by the user.
- Authenticate users and manage access to application features.
- Save and retrieve optional personalization information.
- Generate recipe, nutrition, and sustainability suggestions.
- Record accept/reject decisions for ingredient and recipe suggestions.
- Produce statistical, research, evaluation, and reporting outputs related to the DietWise project.
- Understand recipe trends, assess alignment with nutrition guidelines and sustainability practices, improve the MyRecipeWatch and DietWise tools, evaluate project impact, and support scientific and reporting activities described in the DietWise Grant Agreement.
- Operate, secure, monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain the application and backend services.
Full page content retrieved for assessment is used only to provide the requested assessment and is not stored after processing.
Legal Basis
Where the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies, we rely on one or more of the following legal bases, depending on the processing activity:
- The user’s request or consent, when the user submits a recipe URL for assessment or saves optional personalization information.
- Performance of the service requested by the user, including account authentication, recipe assessment, personalization, and delivery of application functionality.
- Legitimate interests or public-interest research and reporting purposes connected with operating, securing, evaluating, and improving the DietWise project tools, provided those interests are not overridden by the user’s rights and freedoms.
- Compliance with legal obligations, where records must be retained or disclosed under applicable law.
What We Store
On your device, the application may store:
- Authentication tokens needed to keep you signed in.
- Application settings, such as language.
On our servers or the DietWise authentication service, we may store:
- Account identifiers and email/profile information needed for authentication.
- Optional personalization information you save: biological gender, year of birth, and country.
- URLs of assessed recipes or food-related pages.
- Accept/reject decision statistics about suggested ingredient or recipe changes.
- Statistical outputs derived from application use.
- Technical logs and security records needed to operate and protect the service.
We do not store the full page content retrieved or submitted for assessment after processing.
Sharing Of Data
We do not sell, rent, or share user data with third parties for advertising, profiling, or unrelated commercial purposes.
We do not share eponymous, named, or directly identifiable personal data with third parties for DietWise reporting, publication, or project communication. Such outputs use aggregated or de-identified statistics.
Where service providers are necessary to host, secure, authenticate, or operate our servers and application infrastructure, they may process data only on our behalf, under our instructions, and not for their own purposes.
When our servers retrieve a recipe page that you asked us to assess, the operator of that recipe website may receive a normal server request from our infrastructure, including the requested URL and technical request metadata. We do not send your account data or personalization data to that recipe website.
We may disclose data if required by applicable law, a valid legal request, or necessary to protect the security and integrity of the service.
Retention
Recipe page content retrieved for assessment is processed transiently and is not retained after the assessment is completed.
Account data, optional personalization data, assessed recipe URLs, ingredient decision statistics, aggregated statistical outputs, and related technical records are retained only for as long as needed for application functionality, DietWise statistical, research, evaluation, reporting, security, and legal obligations. After that, they are deleted or anonymized.
If you request account deletion or deletion of your application data, we will delete or anonymize personal data associated with your account unless we need to retain limited records for security, legal compliance, dispute resolution, or project reporting obligations. Aggregated or de-identified statistics that no longer identify you may be retained.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect transmitted and stored data, including encrypted transmission over HTTPS, access controls, server-side safeguards, and secure local storage for authentication tokens where supported by the platform. No internet-based service can guarantee absolute security.
User Choices And Rights
You control whether to submit a recipe URL for assessment. If you do not want a URL or recipe page content to be processed, do not submit that URL.
You can choose whether to provide optional personalization information. You may update or remove personalization information where the application allows, or contact us to request deletion.
You may sign out of the application at any time. You may also uninstall the mobile application and stop using it.
You may contact us at info@dietwise.eu to ask about access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, portability, withdrawal of consent where applicable, or other rights that may apply under data protection law. If stored data is not directly linked to a user account or direct identifier, we may need information such as the relevant URL and approximate date of use to locate applicable records.
Account Deletion
If MyRecipeWatch account creation is available to you, you may request deletion of your account and associated application data by contacting info@dietwise.eu or by using any account-deletion mechanism provided in the application or on the DietWise website.
When deleting an account, we will delete or anonymize personal data associated with that account unless retention is required for legal, security, fraud-prevention, dispute-resolution, or DietWise reporting obligations.
Automated Recommendations
MyRecipeWatch provides informational recipe, nutrition, and sustainability suggestions. These suggestions do not produce legal effects concerning you or similarly significant effects. You remain responsible for deciding whether to follow any suggestion.
Children
The application is not directed to children and is not intended to knowingly collect personal data from children without appropriate authorization.
Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy when the application, processing practices, publication channels, or legal requirements change. The updated version will be published on the DietWise website and, where required, linked from the application or app store listing.
