SAFE FOOD ADVOCACY EUROPE

SAFE (Safe Food Advocacy Europe) was created with the aim of ensuring that consumers’ health and concerns remain at the core of the EU’s food legislation. SAFE is currently the only Brussels-based NGO specialised in the protection and representation of EU consumers in the food sector.

SAFE strives to ensure safer food standards for consumers by monitoring the EU’s food legislation process and cooperating with EU stakeholders to draft comprehensive food regulations. Organisation notably supports the development of policies and awareness-raising actions which jointly address health, environment, food safety and sustainability, all-the-while being involved in several EU-funded projects aimed at reducing the environmental impact of the food sector, increasing sustainability and promoting healthier food environments for consumers.

With experience in EU-funded projects, SAFE collaborates with key stakeholders to promote transparency, sustainability, and the highest food safety standards in Europe. The organization actively participates in research and advocacy initiatives, addressing critical food-related challenges while representing consumers’ interests in EU decision-making processes.

VLAAMS INSTITUUT GEZOND LEVEN

Gezond Leven is a Belgian non-profit organization focused on promoting public health and well-being, particularly in the areas of nutrition, physical activity, and lifestyle choices.

The organization works closely with public health authorities, researchers, and other stakeholders to implement evidence-based interventions aimed at improving health outcomes across diverse populations. Gezond Leven is also a key player in public health campaigns, often targeting the prevention of chronic diseases, the promotion of healthy habits, and the reduction of health inequalities.

Gezond Leven has been actively involved in various collaborative initiatives, particularly those funded under the Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe programs. Projects typically focus on health promotion, disease prevention, and the development of innovative health policies and practices across Europe. The organization’s expertise in public health communication, behavioural interventions, and policy advocacy has made it a valuable partner in these cross-border initiatives.

Foodbag’s service allows customers to create nutritious meals at home while minimizing food waste and supporting sustainable farming practices. The company is committed to promoting healthier eating habits and reducing the carbon footprint of food production and consumption.

ADCOGITO, INSTITUTE FOR ADVANCED BEHAVIORAL RESEARCH

AdCogito is an international team of researchers focusing their expertise in the areas of behavioural research, circular and sustainable consumption, innovations, health-related behaviour, judgment and decision making, environmental psychology, aesthetics and social influence.

AdCogito’s team different backgrounds allow them to approach research questions from innovative angles. They have the ability to use and integrate knowledge from different disciplines: consumer behavior, psychology, geopolitics, and management.

AdCogito researchers have experience in attracting and successfully implementing multiple national and international grants from EU H2020, EU Horizon Europe, Fulbright programs, and Lithuanian Research Council.

VILNIUS CITY PUBLIC HEALTH BUREAU

Vilnius City Public Health Bureau is dedicated to enhancing public health within the Vilnius municipality through various initiatives and programs.

Their core functions include public health promotion, monitoring, prevention of communicable and non-communicable diseases, and the implementation of health programs targeting children and youth. They also collaborate with social partners to assess and improve public health strategies within the community.

Vilnius City Public Health Bureau together with other communities and non-Governmental institutions has best position to expose health problems that arise in Vilnius municipality, to evaluate priorities of public health care and implement successful measures of health maintenance and promotion.

VILNIUS UNIVERSITY FACULTY OF MEDICINE

The Faculty of Medicine is one of the largest and most significant in Vilnius University. It has four large Institutes which, in their internal structure, combine smaller departments, clinics, centers, departments and laboratories; also, Biobank of Lithuanian Population and Rare Disorders.

 

The Department of Public Health of the Faculty is continuously involved in various projects focused on public health and the factors influencing it. During the 2020–2023 period, the department participated in international research projects that assessed changes in public behavior during the COVID-19 pandemic. It also took part in a study aimed at understanding the pandemic’s impact on the mental health of residents in the European region. Currently, in addition to the DietWise project, the department is involved in two other projects related to the financing and expenditures of healthcare services.

INTERNATIONAL HELENIC UNIVERSITY

The International Hellenic University (IHU), based in Thessaloniki, Greece, is a prestigious higher education institution offering interdisciplinary academic programs in English.

IHU has significant experience in EU-funded projects, actively participating in programs like Horizon 2020, Erasmus+, and the European Regional Development Fund. The university has contributed to initiatives focusing on sustainability, disaster resilience, public health, and advanced technologies. By collaborating with international partners, IHU leverages its expertise to drive impactful research and develop innovative solutions for societal and environmental challenges.

PROLEPSIS INSTITUTE

The Prolepsis Institute, established in 1990, is a non-governmental organization based in Greece, dedicated to public health research, health promotion, and environmental and occupational health.

Its mission is to address significant public health needs in Greece and Europe by conducting rigorous academic research and translating findings into action through education, advocacy, and direct service. The institute emphasizes that health is a fundamental, non-negotiable, and inalienable right for every individual.

Prolepsis has extensive experience in EU-funded projects, having participated in more than 70 EU co-funded and numerous national projects as a coordinator or partner. These initiatives encompass research, applied, and educational activities across various public health domains. Through such collaborations, Prolepsis contributes significantly to advancing public health and promoting health equity across Europe.

Systemic Solutions to Enhance Healthy and Sustainable Food Provision and Cooking at Home.

DietWise is an EU-funded initiative dedicated to revolutionizing food consumption patterns across Europe

Our mission is to tackle the pressing challenges of unhealthy and unsustainable eating habits by empowering individuals to make informed, healthier, and environmentally conscious food choices. The project seeks to enhance the uptake of beneficial tools and applications, improve food literacy, and promote healthy and sustainable diets. It will also develop policy recommendations and integrity guidelines for the industry.

Key innovations include the Responsible Cooking Alliance (RCA), a voluntary reporting system for influencers and food environment actors, and RecipeWatch, an AI-powered app that suggests personalized corrections to online recipes to align with nutrition guidelines.

The project focuses on systemic changes, inclusion, and social innovations in food practices

The main goals are to address unhealthy and unsustainable food consumption by developing innovative approaches that streamline existing tools and applications. There will be a combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods, including surveys, interviews, and experiments, to understand food environments and citizen needs. It will also involve co-creation with stakeholders to develop and test new tools and interventions.
