Mapping of existing nutrition guidelines, systems, tools and apps that promote healthy and sustainable dietary habits
2025-04-14
At the outset of the DietWise project, within the framework of Work Package 2, the consortium set out to advance understanding of behavioural factors influencing the uptake of nutrition guidelines, as well as to explore ways to enhance healthy and sustainable food provision, eating practices, and food-related behaviours at home.
To support these objectives, experts from Belgium, Greece, and Lithuania conducted a comprehensive mapping of existing systems, tools, and applications, alongside an assessment of their effectiveness in promoting healthier and more sustainable dietary habits.
Interviews with nutrition experts and public health experts
To provide institutional-level insights about key interventions to promote beneficial tools and applications uptake and compliance with the nutrition guidelines, we have implemented 8 interviews with nutrition experts in Belgium, Greece and Lithuania. Specific barriers regarding the adherence to healthy and sustainable dietary habits as well as the use of relevant apps have been revealed such as low digital literacy, poor nutrition knowledge in addition to the existing misinformation in the field of health and nutrition. Within the next month, about 15 interviews in Belgium, Greece and Lithuania with nutrition and public health experts have been scheduled so as to understand the citizens that are more vulnerable regarding the access to healthy and sustainable food so as to develop tailor-made apps and tools that will cover their needs.
Surveys with citizens
To understand the needs, barriers and drivers influencing citizens for uptaking beneficial tools and apps, a large, pan-European survey has been launched in 8 countries and 4000 citizens. Early in May, another survey in Belgium, Greece and Lithuania will be launched, this time with the focus oriented towards the vulnerable citizens including youth, elderly and persons of low socioeconomic status. In total, 450 citizens will be enrolled. The results will be available at the end of June.
